CAKE SMASH PLANNING
There are a few approaches to planning your cake smash look.
- You can contribute as much input as you would like; choose the decor style, choose the backdrop and main colors, select cake color(s) and style
- You can choose a few of these things and I will put together the rest
- You can let me do it all for you!
DECOR STYLE
Below are different decor styles I offer. Depending on your preference, and if a theme is involved, one style may work better than another.
BACKDROP OPTIONS
The backdrop (the back wall) can be a fun solid color, a simple pattern, or a wood design.

CAKE OPTIONS
Below are some examples of smash cakes. As a precaution to the pandemic I am not providing the actual cake for the cake smash. There are many wonderful local bakers; Something sweet by Maddie Lu, Thirsty Whale Bakery, and Nadia cakes are a few. I recommend a 6” round cake, some bakeries consider a 4” cake their smash cake which is also fine. You want the decoration to be mainly buttercream frosting so it is smash-able. Some small fondant decorations on it are fine, just not a solid fondant cake. Please ask the bakery to have the cake be attached to a white cardboard round or a round that is covered in white, gold, or silver decorative foil (they will know what this means). Most professional bakeries require at least a 2 weeks notice for a custom cake. I have also seen solid white cakes at Target and HyVee if you want to keep it simple (call ahead to check availability). You can pick up your cake a few days beforehand and keep it in your fridge. Just leave it out for a few hours prior to your session so the buttercream softens enough to smash.
